How does estrogen affect a woman’s sexual health?

Estrogen belongs to a group of hormones that trigger the development of a woman’s reproductive and sexual organs. These hormones are sometimes referred as sex hormones. They are mostly produced from the ovaries and in a limited amount by the adrenal glands.

This sex driving chemical released in a woman’s body also plays a major share in regulating the urinary tract, heart, blood vessels, bones, breasts, hair, mucous, pelvis muscles and brain. According to several studies, it has been found that estrogen is predominantly responsible for maintaining the elasticity and lubrication of the vaginal lining. In men, this hormone plays no essential role. On the other hand, low level of this hormone reduces the appetite for sex among men.

It further causes erectile problem and loss of hair in some men. This hormone is significantly responsible for maintaining and regulating the development of a woman’s sexual organs. It also leads to the development of secondary sexual characters like armpit hair and pubic. They play an essential role in regulating the sex drive among women. Large deficiencies of this hormone drastically drop the desire for sexual activities and intercourse. The essential drop in this hormone is related to stress, age, menopause, menstruation and mental exertions.
