The Link between Memory Loss and Menopause

There exist a link between memory loss and menopause and women undergoing menopausal phase complaints that they are unable to retrieve sufficient information at the time when they need it. Due to menopause women are not able to remember certain words or names of the people. Memory loss in women in the initial stage can be a sign of menopause. The cause for memory loss in menopausal phase is due to fluctuating hormone level in the body.

Estrogen is one of the hormone which plays active role in memory. The neurotransmitters of brain are stimulated by the estrogen which allows the different parts of the brain to communicate with one another. Estrogen expands the blood vessels reaching the brain thereby increasing the flow of red blood cells to the brain, so that brain can perform its function efficiently. Weight gain, continuous mood swings, hot feeling and excessive sweat are caused by menopause and leads to mounting of great tension which is also the reason for memory loss.

Menopause also causes extreme stress in many women and due to stress loss in memory can result. Due to menopause there is reduction in estrogen level and so women move onto hormone replacement therapy to comeback menopausal symptoms and prevent memory loss.
