Peyronie’s disease can be diagnosed by the occurrence of a hard lump or plaque in the penis. The lump is basically a localized inflammation that stays back as scar. Normally, this plaque develops at the end point or at the top edge of human penis.
It is developed inside a thick membrane which is termed as tunica albuginea. Tunica albuginea covers the tissues which are responsible for erection. Peyronie’s disease might be severe or mild. Symptoms may develop gradually. It may even appear overnight. The plaque affects the flexibility of the penis during erection. The bending penis is a problem because it may affect the man’s self esteem and may even interfere in physical and emotional relationship of the couple. In cases where this disease is milder, the inflammation may become fine without any pain.
It is worth noting that this plaque is noncancerous. It is also important to know that this disease is not contagious. There are many causes behind the occurrence of Peyronie’s disease. Some of them are diabetes, forceful sexual intercourse which damages the tissues, injury, genetic factor, vitamin E deficiency, infection etc. Some of the medications that can be used in the treatment are: Vitamin E, Colchicine and Verapamil. |
