Can an individual’s overall physical health affect their sexual health?

A person’s overall health is determined by factors like mental equilibrium, spiritual health, environmental health, social well-being and most importantly absence of any form of illness or disease. A healthy lifestyle can lead to an improved sexual life which in turn enhances the over-all health of the person. A healthy body means the adequate production of the sex hormones among both men and women. These hormones keep the urge for sexual intercourse alive in both the sexes.

Among men, well maintained pituitary glands lead to the adequate production of hormones like testosterone which play a major role in developing sex organs and arousing sexual fantasies. On the other hand, in women, estrogen is mainly responsible for the growth and maintenance of sex organs and the entire reproductive system. A healthy and fit body keeps the immune system kicking. This is the self defense mechanism of the body which evades all the minor diseases and infections. Thus, a healthy body naturally leads to an enhanced sexual health among men and women. Further, it has been proved that elevated levels of the love hormone, oxytocin, is only found in healthy bodies. Therefore, if the person is healthy, his attraction towards his partner increases up to five times.
