What are the symptoms of a urinary tract infection?

There are various symptoms of urinary tract infection which are not easy to miss. The most common symptom is the strong and frequent urge to urinate which cannot be delayed and is followed by burning sensation and pain in the urethra during the urination. Moreover in most of the conditions the amount of urine released is very less a there is also a sensation that one is not able to urinate completely and easily.

The urine may also be bloody, bad smelling and cloudy. Other symptoms of UTI include pain in the lower abdomen, chills and mild fever, nausea, vomiting and many others. In infants, children, newborns and elderly people the classic signs may not be present but there may be some other symptoms to indicate the infection. The newborns and infants may suffer from jaundice, poor feeding, hypothermia or fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.

The elderly people having urinary tract infection may show symptoms like poor appetite, lethargy, hypothermia, fever and change in the mental status. Though majority of the people do have symptoms of this infection but there are few cases in which there might be no signs. The symptoms of UTI generally resembles with the ones of sexually transmitted diseases. Proper diagnosis of the symptoms needs to be done as they might be caused due to other problems as well.
