Can testosterone therapy be dangerous?

Testosterone therapy, also known as the testosterone replacement therapy, is commonly used for triggering the natural and endogenous release of the sex hormone, testosterone, among both men and women. However, this therapy is used only as a secondary treatment when the natural ways of accelerating the release of these hormones fail to show any result.

Among women, this therapy is known to trigger the production of acne and facial hair. It is also responsible for the fluttering moods among women which may make them irritated and restless most of the times. Voice alteration is observed to be a common side effect of this therapy among both men and women. Apart from these minor effects, the therapy is also associated with numerous liver problems which lead to excessive urination, frequent thirst and much more. Among men, excessive or wrong procedure of the therapy can seriously impact the fertility of the sperm released. It can further change the shape as well as size of the testicles which can further affect their fertility.

Many doctors associate this hormone therapy with the reduction in the level of high density lipoprotein (HDL) which is also known as the beneficial cholesterol in the body. The reduction of this cholesterol affects the over-all health of the body.
