Balanitis in medicinal terms is defined as an inflammation or swelling of glans penis. It is a common genital disorder in male and 11% of world’s adult male population and 3% children suffer from this. Microorganisms are the major agents causing this disorder. For treatment of balanitis anaerobic conditions are mandatory.

This condition ceases growth of organisms responsible for this disease. After this, exposure of the affected area to fresh air and proper cleansing should be done. For cleansing, people earlier used peroxide powder and arsphenamine. For extreme cases dorsal slit was also used in ancient times. However, advent of penicillin, antibiotics and other medications has made the treatment more specific and effective. There are scores of medicines available to treat balanitis. Depending upon the cause, doctors prescribe anti-fungal medications, creams and tablets for it. One of the popular antifungal cream balanitis is Clotrimazole cream. This cream needs to be applied twice a day at the affected area until the symptoms are not taken care of completely. Doctors also prescribe anti-fungal tablets like Fluconazole. 
 Antibiotics like Metronidazole are also helpful in this situation. In some cases doctors also prescribe mild steroid cream to people suffering from balanitis.
