Trichomoniasis is a sexually-transmitted disease which is contagious in nature than most STDs. At times, if not directly, moist surfaces can be the transmitting agents thus things like sharing of wet towels, bathing suits etc becomes a risky thing. The single cell flagellated organism called Trichomonas vaginalis is the culprit. It thrives in humid, dark and moist places of the body. Thus female’s and male’s genitals are the main hosts in most cases.
Sexual intercourse with infected male or female can spread this parasite in a normal person. One of the symptoms which arise due to this disease is vaginal itching in females. This may be mild, moderate or severe. The colored discharge may also indicate that there is some infection. However, when the colored discharge is very dark, it indicates presence of this disease. During menstruation, the discharge is very dark in females who have this disease.
In women, the symptoms are inflammation, pain and vaginal itching. In males the symptoms are not that specific. However, pain during urination and pain after ejaculation are notable symptoms. However, the good news is that the treatment of this disease is simple and consists of one dose treatment with Flagyl. It is always better to use preventive measures to keep away from STDs and that is possible with use of condoms. |
